California’s best kept secret, Cobb Mountain

A short 30 minutes from the Napa Valley tucked into a beautiful evergreen forest is the village of Cobb. Once famous for its thriving resorts Cobb is making a comeback as a wonderful place to live year round and raise a family. Known for its clean air and sparkling clear spring water there is something for everyone to enjoy. Boggs forest is a great place to hike or mountain bike. Off one of the many marked trails you can enjoy a picnic by a babbling creek and maybe catch a glimpse of one of our local deer nibbling on the grass. If you enjoy bird watching don’t miss Boggs vernal lake sanctuary. For golfers we have two wonderful courses. Rob Roy Golf & Country club is right in the center of the community and Adams Springs Golf Course is just up the road a couple of miles. For boaters and fisherman it is a short ride to Clear Lake the largest natural lake in California. The lake has become world renowned for its bass fishing and has several tournaments throughout the year. Also at the lake is Konocti Harbor inn which has world class entertainment most of the year in both an indoor theatre and a beautiful outdoor amphitheatre. If gaming is your passion it is a short 15 minutes to Middletown and the Twin Pines Casino.
Cobb has four distinct seasons. Spring with its redbud blossoms and wildflowers and all the bright green leaves unfolding on the trees. The forest is coming to life after the winter. Days are getting longer and the temperatures can get up near 80 but it is certain to rain and even freeze before summer gets here. The local garden shop is buzzing with activity as everyone gets spring fever.

Summer brings the tourists and the part time residents to enjoy our beautiful weather and clear skies. The local resorts are full of happy vacationers and the most of the swimming pools are open to the public for a quick dip in the heat of the day. The golf courses are always busy and if it gets too warm the clubhouse offers a great cold libation.

Long sunny days and balmy nights make it the perfect vacation spot and for those of us lucky enough to live here a little heaven on Earth. Each July the Merchants Association hosts The Cobb Mountain Music Festival with all day music, food, arts and crafts and a good time for everyone.

Autumn brings color that rivals the New England states. The bright reds of the dogwoods and golds of the oaks and maples mixed with the evergreen forest is a spectacle not to be missed. Indian summer extends the good weather into October and lets us celebrate what we call Cobbtoberfest, a downtown festival with bratwurst and beer, music and vendors selling arts and crafts and pumpkin painting for the kids makes it a day of fun with the family.

Even winter is beautiful on Cobb. The evergreen forest is spectacular year round whether glistening with rain or dusted with a recent snow storm. The wood smoke fills the air and there is nothing better than curling up in front of the fireplace with a good book and letting the world pass by while we are snug in our home on Cobb Mountain.

There is always something going on in the community of Cobb. An active arts council hosts several art shows and art trails throughout the year. The Cobb Merchants are always working for the betterment of the community as well as the businesses and besides hosting two festivals a year provide the annual Christmas tree lighting and sing along. They are extending the existing walking trail and revamping the old one.
